AP scores are soaring....

AP Mathematics teachers are already hard at working planning and preparing a new group of students this year for rich AP mathematics. However, I just wanted to update everyone on their success from last spring's testing.  In April, I shared with you the story about our AP Mock Exam.  The AP teachers are truly dedicated to their content and are willing to go above and beyond to create access for all students.  When I first started in this position 8 years ago we had very few Calculus classes and hardly any AP offerings.   With the District vision of "Preparing every student for success in college, career and life" and the E2 Math vision driving the work of the AP Mathematics teachers, the PUHSD AP Mathematics teams are soaring to new heights.

In 2004, there were 35 students enrolled in an AP math class.  (Insert DRUM ROLL...) Since 2004, we have had a 645% rate of increase of students enrolled in AP Mathematics course across the district (AB, BC Calculus and AP Statistics).  In 2004, we had 2% of students scoring a passing score (3,4, or 5) on the AP exam and in 2012 we have 28% of the students passing the exam!!

In 2010, only 2% of the AP math scores were 5's (the highest score possible), and this year we had 8% of the students scoring fives!  Mathematics alone had 21% of the 5's from across the district.

Kudos to the AP Calculus and the AP statistics teams!  Your hard work and dedication is celebrated as we continue to create access to rich mathematics across the district.
