Below is the presentation from the September 5th meeting. The District-Wide Algebra team met for their first team meeting and it was a huge success! Thanks to Alexis and Immedia for sponsoring the snacks.
During the opening activity, we discussed our current successes and challenges with implementation. The common success was the level of collaboration within each team! Teachers teams are rising to the rigor of the common core and aiming for Stage 7 of professional learning collaboration. The main challenge was student learning gaps. The new curriculum makes several assumptions regarding requisite knowledge and teachers shared strategies on how to tap into prior knowledge.
We then walked through a Looking at student work protocol with the Unit 1 exam. Teachers left with a plan of action on how to modify their instructional plan to ensure that all students met the Unit 1 learning targets. We also shared strategies on how to "re-engage" students in standards that were not mastered. Each campus team shared their re-engagement plans and I shared the learning contract that can be used. I also shared the Assessment Blueprints and the PARCC Model Content Framework for Algebra I. Teachers also reviewed the Algebra 1 PARCC prototype questions.
Immedia then provided training on Functions and modeled the use the clickers. Our next meeting is Wednesday October 3 from 1:00-5:00. We will be meeting at the AZ K-12 Center, please watch for upcoming emails.
